Monday Moods: “The Story Starts Here”

Enter into the worlds of our favorite artists with these storytelling tracks that will keep you on the edge of your seats.

What is the magic of music? Some may argue it’s the ability to pull us out of the mundane. This week we have 5 new tracks where the artists tell us stories that transport us into their own little dream worlds. While some are rooted right here in reality and others are imaginative beyond belief, there’s no question that all the songs this week are sure to please!

There’s no better way to begin your Monday than with the sunny sonic offering from an all-time favorite, Toro y Moi. Walking us through the inner monologue of basically every person on the planet, “Postman” feels like you’re sharing a brain with the band. It’s also the first single off of their upcoming LP Mahal which is set to soundtrack our every move come April.

Next, we have the enchanting, indie tune “My My” by Magic Giant. Fueled with adrenaline, the song sounds like walking along with the band, dodging the villains, and vibing all the way. The catchy production style contrasted by tense lyrics goes hand in hand with FINNEAS’ ingenious creation that is “The Kids All Are Dying.” Off of his latest album, Optimist, this song is anything but, instead telling the story of the unavoidable current world climate adorned with a beat that you also can’t get out of your head. Up-and-coming artist Bay Ledges brings us a story of loving and leaving in “Walk Away,” set to a psychedelic soundscape that makes us want to stay. Along with “Honeydew” by Young Prisms, we hear about how people walk through life after a spark is gone. Thank god these two put their stories into songs to blast on high when we may be feeling low.
